Ecommerce web design engineered to sell

An ecommerce website is a machine with one output: orders. We design and build stores for NZ brands, usually on Shopify with a fully custom theme, where every decision from category structure to checkout flow is made by people who also run the Google Shopping, SEO and email that will feed the store traffic. Pretty is included. Profitable is the point.

Stores built to sell, by the team that runs your marketing

Most ecommerce sites are designed to look good, then handed over. Ours are engineered to sell, and kept improving on the data they generate. Every decision, from category structure to the words on the checkout button, answers one question: does it turn more shoppers into orders? Revenue is the brief, not an afterthought.

What really sets our stores apart is who builds them. The same team that designs your site runs the Google Shopping, ecommerce SEO and email that will feed it traffic. So your product data is structured for the feed on day one, your site is built around the searches you want to rank for, and your tracking sends clean signals to the campaigns that bid on them. Most stores retrofit all of this later, at cost. Ours launch with it built in.

We typically build new stores on Shopify with a fully custom theme, designed around your catalogue and your customers rather than adapted from a template a thousand other stores already use. When a store's needs genuinely outgrow Shopify, we build a custom site from scratch instead. The recommendation follows your catalogue and your operations, never our convenience.

And we sweat the parts that actually decide performance: product pages that answer the buying question before it's asked, navigation that gets a shopper to the right product in two moves, a checkout with nothing optional in the way, and a site fast enough that mobile, the main store for most NZ retailers, never loses a sale to load time. We build knowing we'll answer for the numbers afterwards, because usually we're the ones running them.

What we do

Our ecommerce web design services

Ecommerce builds are part of our wider web design practice, and they're shaped by what our Google Shopping and ecommerce SEO work proves converts. One team, from build through to growth.

Ecommerce web design services
Shopify design & build
Custom Shopify themes designed around your catalogue and your customers, not adapted from a template a thousand stores already use. Clean code, fast loads and full control over the buying experience, with the platform's checkout reliability underneath.
Conversion-focused store UX
Category logic, product page structure, cart and checkout flow, all designed from how shoppers actually buy in your market. We sweat the details that move revenue: photography order, shipping clarity, trust signals and the mobile thumb-path to purchase.
Speed & technical foundations
Stores carry heavy media and heavy apps, and both cost sales when they slow the site. We build for Core Web Vitals from the start and keep the app stack lean, because a second of load time is measurable revenue on an NZ store.
Integrations & product data
Payments, shipping, inventory, Klaviyo email flows and the analytics stack, wired in properly. Product data is structured for the Google Merchant Center feed from day one, so Shopping campaigns launch on clean data instead of a repair job.
4 in 5
Kiwis buy local online

Almost 4 in every 5 dollars NZers spend online goes to NZ-based retailers.

NZ Post's ecommerce reporting puts domestic retailers' share of online spending near 80%, with local online sales growing at more than double the rate of international sites. Kiwi shoppers want to buy from Kiwi stores. The store that wins them is the one that's fast, clear and easy to buy from on a phone.

We're TooGood

Why have TooGood build your store?

There are many web designers. Fewer who live in ecommerce numbers daily:

01
Measurable, performance-based builds.

Revenue is the design brief. Every layout and flow decision traces to conversion, average order value or repeat purchase, and we wire in tracking that tells the truth, not vanity dashboards.

02
Doing the right thing is our founding kaupapa.

We'll tell you when a cheaper theme tweak would do, or when the store isn't the real problem. Transparency and honesty guide the whole build, for our customers and for the world.

03
No fixed-term contracts. Ever.

The store lives on your Shopify, yours to keep, with no lock-in and no hostage code. Because we usually run the growth channels afterwards, we stay by earning it, not by contract.

04
We'll be there when you need us.

A store is never finished. Regular catch-ups, live performance data and open communication mean it keeps improving from real trading, instead of being handed over and forgotten.

Fluent in the ecommerce stack

An NZ store runs on a connected stack: Shopify at the centre, payments and shipping providers around it, Klaviyo for email, GA4 for measurement and Google Merchant Center feeding the Shopping campaigns.

We build with all of it in mind and connect it properly, so the day your store launches, the marketing machinery around it is ready to run rather than waiting on integrations.

The process

How our ecommerce build process works

01
Discovery

We get to know your products, your margins and how your customers buy. The catalogue, the price points and the repeat-purchase pattern shape every build decision that follows.

02
Design

Store structure, category logic and page designs, planned around the shortest honest path from landing to order. You see and approve the direction before build begins.

03
Build & integrate

We build the theme, wire in payments, shipping, email and analytics, and structure the product data for the channels to come. Everything is tested on real devices before launch.

04
Launch & grow

We launch carefully, verify tracking on live orders, and then the growth work begins: the trading data feeds conversion improvements, and the store gets better every month it runs.

Frequently asked questions

What ecommerce web design costs in NZ, how long it takes and what platform to build on.

It depends on catalogue size, design ambition and integrations. A focused Shopify store for a growing brand sits at one end; a large custom build with complex operations at the other. We quote fixed, up front, after understanding your catalogue and requirements, and we'll tell you honestly where money is worth spending and where it isn't. A store is an investment with a measurable return, and we treat the budget that way.
We build new stores on Shopify with a fully custom theme, and where a catalogue or operation genuinely outgrows it, we build a custom site from scratch instead. Those are the two ways we work: we don't build on Wix, Squarespace, Magento or WordPress/WooCommerce. For most NZ retailers Shopify is genuinely hard to beat on checkout, reliability and ecosystem, and its quirks (URL structure, app bloat, theme limits) are all manageable when the build is done properly. If your operation is the exception that outgrows it, the custom route is there, and we'll show you the reasoning rather than a preference.
Typically six to twelve weeks from kick-off to launch, driven mostly by catalogue size and how quickly content and product data come together. Replatforms need extra care around URL redirects and data migration, and we plan those properly because rushing them costs rankings and revenue. You get a clear timeline at the start and honest updates throughout.
Yes. A replatform means migrating your products, customers and order history, and crucially, redirecting every URL that holds rankings so your organic revenue survives the move. Our ecommerce SEO team plans that alongside the build, which is the part most web designers skip.
Yes, structurally. Product data is set up clean for the Merchant Center feed, category structure is planned against real search demand, and the technical foundations meet what ecommerce SEO needs. Most stores come to us with these as expensive retrofits. Ours launch with them built in, because the same team runs those channels.
Often, and it's some of the highest-return work we do. A store with traffic and sales already has data telling us exactly where revenue leaks: which pages lose shoppers, where the mobile flow breaks, what the checkout drops. We redesign against that evidence, so the new store is an upgrade you can measure, not just a new coat of paint.
