Both. The beauty industry splits roughly in two: brands that sell products online (skincare, cosmetics, fragrance, haircare) and businesses that sell services in person (salons, day spas, cosmetic and laser clinics).

The marketing approach for each is fundamentally different. Ecommerce beauty brands need Google Shopping, Performance Max and a strong product feed. Salons and clinics need Google Ads, Local SEO and call tracking to fill the appointment book.

We do both. The trick is knowing which one you are and building the right strategy for it.
For beauty product brands, Google Shopping is almost always the foundation. People searching for "vitamin C serum NZ" or "best mineral foundation" are ready to buy, and Shopping puts your product in front of them at the moment of decision.

We support Shopping with Performance Max, Search, Meta and Instagram ads for top-of-funnel reach and remarketing, and a strong product feed strategy. Beauty is one of the most visual ecommerce categories, so creative is everything.

SEO is usually slower to deliver than paid for beauty ecommerce, but compounds significantly over time, particularly around category pages and education content.
For salons, day spas, cosmetic clinics and laser/skin clinics, Google Ads and Local SEO are the foundation. People search by service ("hair colour Auckland", "lip filler Wellington") and location, so Search captures that intent at a profitable cost per appointment.

Google Business Profile optimisation is huge for this side of beauty. Most clinics get a substantial chunk of bookings directly through their profile once it's set up properly.

Paid Social (Meta and Instagram) is more important for clinics than for many other lead-gen verticals because beauty is visual. Strong before/after content and treatment-led creative drives consideration that Search alone can't.
For beauty ecommerce, we track revenue, ROAS, product-level performance, add-to-carts, and where possible margin and profit. We typically work with Shopify, Klaviyo and GA4 to build a full revenue picture.

For salons and clinics, we track every form fill, call, booking and (where the booking system allows) confirmed appointment. Cost per booked client is the metric that matters, not cost per click.
For beauty ecommerce, most NZ brands start somewhere between $2,500 and $7,500 per month and scale from there. We've worked with brands that scaled from a $3k starting budget to over $40k per month as ROAS stayed profitable.
